Elon Musk Plans to Build Utopian Town in Texas For His Employees

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and the Boring Company, has recently purchased thousands of acres of land near Austin, Texas to build his own utopian town for his employees. The project has been described as a sort of Texas paradise along the Colorado River, where employees can both live and work. Mr. Musk and his top executives aim to offer affordable housing to their workers, and they have reportedly discussed the idea of creating a new municipality in Bastrop County, which would allow Mr. Musk to set his own regulations and expedite his plans.

Elon Musk’s latest project is an ambitious one, aimed at offering his employees a unique and idyllic lifestyle. The town will be located on newly purchased pasture and farmland outside the Texas capital, adjacent to the Boring and SpaceX facilities that are currently under construction. According to people familiar with the project, Mr. Musk and his executives envision the town as a sort of Texas utopia along the Colorado River, where employees can live and work in a self-contained community.

The plan is to offer affordable housing to employees of all three companies, and executives at the Boring Co. have reportedly discussed and researched the idea of incorporating the town in Bastrop County, which would allow Mr. Musk to set some regulations in his own municipality and expedite his plans. The idea of creating a new municipality has been a topic of discussion for quite some time, and if it comes to fruition, it would give Mr. Musk significant control over the town’s development and operation.

Snailbrook, the name of the town, is a nod to Boring’s mascot, and the site already includes a group of modular homes, a pool, an outdoor sports area, and a gym. Signs hanging from poles read “Welcome to Snailbrook, TX, est. 2021,” indicating that the project is already underway.

The town’s vision extends beyond just a living space for employees, as some Boring employees have described even bigger plans, including creating an entire city. During an all-hands meeting of Boring employees last year, Steve Davis, the company’s president and a top lieutenant to Mr. Musk, said they would have to hold an election for mayor, according to text messages and people familiar with the meeting.

Elon Musk’s town-building project is still in the early stages, and Bastrop County officials have yet to receive any formal application from Mr. Musk or his entities. However, the idea of creating a self-contained community for employees is an intriguing one, and if executed correctly, it could have a significant impact on the local economy and the way companies approach employee housing.
